Balkhab is a district of Sar-e Pol Province, Afghanistan

According to local reports, Ghulam Nabi Danishyar and his younger brother, Ali Danishyar, residents of a village called Dahane Tarkhoj in Balkhab District of Sar-e Pol Province, served as local police officers under the former government.

After the Taliban’s return to power, Mehdi Mujahid — an ethnic Hazara from Balkhab — was appointed as the Taliban’s intelligence chief in Bamyan. During this time, the two brothers continued their duties in Balkhab. However, when Mehdi Mujahid later developed conflicts with the Taliban and was eventually killed by them, the two brothers — being from the same area and of the same ethnic background as Mehdi Mujahid — became fearful and fled. Ghulam Nabi and his brother Ali lived in hiding for a long time, until, with the guarantee of Atta Mujahid, the district police chief of Balkhab, they returned to their homes. They spent a short period engaged in farming and agricultural work.

On Friday, October 24, 2025, while the two brothers and another Hazara man named Yusuf Najibi were working on a plot of land in an area called “Koh-e Boz Khan,” several Taliban members suddenly arrived and opened fire on them. Ghulam Nabi and his brother Ali were killed instantly, but Yusuf Najibi, who was thought to have been killed, survived. He is currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Bamyan, though his fate after being discharged remains uncertain.
